The qualifying group stage draw was held on 9 October 2022, 12:00 CEST,[6] at the Festhalle in Frankfurt.[2][7][8][9] Of UEFA's 55 member associations, 53 will compete in the qualifying competition. Host team Germany qualified directly to the final tournament, while it was confirmed on 20 September 2022 that Russia were ineligible due to the suspension from FIFA and UEFA competitions following their country's invasion of Ukraine.[10]
UEFA EURO 2024 Qualifying Draw
In total, 23 teams will join hosts Germany in the 24-team UEFA EURO 2024 finals. The first 20 places will be decided by the qualifying group stage, with the top two in each section advancing. The remaining three spots go to the winners of the play-offs, linked to the 2022/23 UEFA Nations League.
The qualifying draw took place in Frankfurt on Sunday 9 October 2022. With Germany already qualified as hosts and Russia currently suspended, the 53 remaining teams were split into ten groups: seven groups of five teams and three groups of six teams. The top two from each group will qualify for the final tournament.
The draw for the UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying group stage was held on 9 October 2022 at the Festhalle in Frankfurt.[12][13] The qualifying group stage will take place from March to November 2023, while the three play-offs will be held in March 2024.[14]
At a meeting of the UEFA Executive Committee in Hvar, Croatia, on 20 September 2022, it was confirmed that Russia would be excluded from qualifying for Euro 2024, all Russian teams having been suspended by UEFA following the country's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.[15] This meant Russia would not appear at the European Championship finals for the first time since 2000.
The final tournament draw will take place in December 2023 at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg.[20] The teams will be seeded in accordance with the overall European Qualifiers rankings. Hosts Germany will be automatically seeded into pot 1, and placed in position A1. The three play-off winners will not be known at the time of the draw, and the teams participating in those play-offs, scheduled to be held in March 2024, will be placed into pot 4 for the draw.[21]
The draw consisted of seven groups of five countries, and three groups with six teams. UEFA Nations League A winners Croatia, Netherlands, Italy and Spain were drawn in the smaller groups, and they are among 12 teams guaranteed a playoff place through their performances in the Nations League if they do not qualify for Euro 2024 automatically.
